It’s a cold day here. Flakes appeared in the air about 5 seconds before the first snow-plough came through spraying salt all over the road, the tram-stop, the sidewalk, the people…yes, like it was waiting around a corner for the start of the snow so it could indiscriminately deliver its payload. Flakes in the air – Go! Attack! Take the ridge! I was on my way back to the foreign police. I had been there once, right at the end of their lunch break, so the place was a mess. I decided to head out on my own, hit the Social and Tax offices to get some of the paperwork I needed taken care of. NO problem at the Social office, got the paper right then and there. Normally, they send it out a week later. Yes, the adventure was going well. I headed on to the Finančni Uřad, the Czech Tax office, for a similar paper showing I was a good boy, and paid all my taxes. When I got there, I found out that this was no longer necessary, since we are now in the European Union. Dang, ok, I suppose I really should head back to the foreign police and find out what it is that I do need, now that we are EUified. I head back, much calmer place now. There was only 7 numbers in front of me, and most of them had left, so it wasn’t a long wait at all. Only got a page or two into the book. I sat down, and asked for the list. Yup, same as last year, except now I don’t need the form from the tax office, nor do I need the form from the Social office. As the woman pointed out “Murfeho Zakon.” I told her Murphy was an optimist (thank you Michael Rogers!). We laughed, and I left. Some how I must have know, since I’ve been putting off the Tax and Social offices for a week now.
Psychic Procrastination!
Now, I sit, and again I procrastinate. I have a copywriting job I should do. It’s a strange job. Strange in that I never really agreed to do it. Nobody ever actually asked me if I want to do the job, or not. It’s for a company called Zepter International. I don’t know if any of you out there are familiar with Equinox. Zepter is similar, except they are run by Serbians. Nothing wrong with that, mind you. The Serbians I’ve met have all been strong workers, and driven towards success. They aren’t as good at making coffee, so as subordinates they do lack a little, but you can count on them to get the job done. Anyway, I’ve done a lot of writing for Zepter in the past. The last two projects didn’t go very well. I spent quite a bit of time, and effort, on a product catalogue, just to have it sort of disappear on me. No real reason behind it. My emails went unanswered, and they quit bugging me when I didn’t send them anything. Oh, well, it didn’t bother me that much. I managed to watch a lot of Olympics while working on those projects, and then I went to the US. I hadn’t heard anything from Zepter for quite a while. Then, a day after I got back from the states, an email from someone I had never heard of telling me about the project arrived. With it was some product information, and a few photos. No one ever asked me if I would like to do the project. NO one ever contacted me at all. Just an email, and a job. Well, I never said I wouldn’t do it, so now I have to do it. And that’s what I should be doing now, instead of writing this long worded ramble. Hopefully, this time will also prove to be Psychic Procrastination. Perhaps this project will disappear as well, but before I actually do any work on it. I should check my email…
