Donkey in the Cradle - Rooms

My wife and I were invited to a party at the hotel/pension one evening.
It has a very large courtyard surrounded or bordered by two, very simple restaurants. There are two floors of available rooms, some of which are available for rent, but I've ever only had people stay on the ground floor in the apartment facing the street.
When entering the courtyard it will be the first door on your left. It has a large king-size bed, a small kitchenette, and separate shower and bathroom.
The two visitors that I've recommended stay there both opted to extend their stays due to the level of comfort and satisfaction with the room.
Lastly, for Prague it's cheap; and for the location, just beneath Prague Castle off Nerudova, it's an amazing deal.
A highly recommended and comfortable and inexpensive place to stay when in Prague.

Donkey in the Cradle - History

A little history from the notice on the door (and with almost no editing on my part):

In 1590 on Jansky Vršek in Mala Strana, was a house that was a home to the famous astrologist
Edward Kelly. His failure to deliver a promised "elixir of life" resulted in the punishment of having his ears cut off under the orders of the English King. Thereafter he wore long hair to keep it secret. His living quarters were located in the section of the attic and he could be found nightly in the sanctuary of this tower charting the stars.

During this same time a young mother lived on the ground floor. When on one stormy night her child fell ill, the desperate woman ran out into the courtyard and found a light coming from the tower windows. In her desperation she called: "Your Excellency, help me, my baby is dying". The astrologist leaned out the window and a sudden wind blew back his hair and exposed his secret to the woman. He shouted down: "Go away! Your child shall have the head of a donkey!"

The horror-stricken woman rushed home where she found her child lying in his cradle and indeed the child s head had transformed into a donkeys.
On Christmas Day, after having stayed home for three days, she hurried to the church of St. Thomas, which was located at that time just opposite the house.

Crying, she looked up to a picture of the Madonna and prayed for mercy. She tearfully returned home and to her own disbelief found the beautiful face of her son smiling up at her from his cradle. Then she fell to her knees gratefully accepting this miracle.

The news spread like wildfire throughout Mala Strana and from that time this house has been known as Donkey in a Cradle.

U Spalku

We spent Saturday night at a newly constructed pension in Horni Dunajovice in Moravia. It was a very nice, very comfortable, half hotel half wine-cellar. There are some pictures of the place taken by the owners in the link just below.

It's a family run pension (the Spalkas) connected to their winery which outputs approximately 250,000 liters of wine per years.

The pension has two huge tables for dining and tasting along with a nice fireplace & kitchen downstairs, and bathroom, shower and three rooms capable of sleeping 18 upstairs.

As the town is so small the street has no name and the pension has no number, cute eh? The only contact is by cell phone: +420 602 535 213.

This town is so close to the Austrian border it makes for an ideal place to use as a jumping off point for visiting other locations such as Telc or Vienna. It's also a very clean, inexpensive place, an added bonus. Here is a large map of the location.
